RACE DAY is a short documentary about harness racing, created with user-generated content (UGC). UGC means that all of the footage used in this film was shot by other people.
In the spring of 2011, we began a publicity campaign inviting harness racing participants and enthusiasts to record their harness racing day on Saturday, August 6, 2011.
Our message was . . .
On Saturday, August 6, 2011, shoot your harness racing day. Whoever you are, whatever you do in harness racing, just TELL THE STORY. Capture the colour, emotion, character and characters of the greatest game in the world
All footage will be shot on one day: Saturday, August 6, 2011.
Footage will be submitted to Race Day producers by August 31, 2011.
The most compelling and distinctive footage will be used to create a 20-30 minute short documentary illustrating life’s highs, lows and colourful in-betweens in harness racing, all captured in one single day.
RACE DAY premiered at the black-tie O’Brien Awards gala on January 28, 2012 in Mississauga, ON, Canada. The O’Brien Awards celebrate the absolute best in harness racing over a given year. They are the highest honour the sport bestows upon its heroes in Canada.
RACE DAY will be available at www.RaceDayDoc.com and on the Race Day Doc YouTube channel later in 2012. RACE DAY will be supported by a publicity efforts to promote the film for distribution.
Our Mission & Vision:
Our mission is to create a short documentary which captures the colour, emotion, character and characters of the greatest game in the world.
Our vision is to do this in the purest, most genuine way possible: by relinquishing control of the video cameras to you.
